The people of the interior

Since 2018, Éric Courtet has been traveling the D769 road, a former national highway connecting Hennebont to Roscoff, through the landscapes of Central Brittany. Several years of exploration, stops, and encounters with those who, far from the urban tumult, continue to inhabit these territories.

"What were the reasons that compelled me to drive on this road crossing Central Brittany, my camera placed on the front passenger seat? Was it to bear witness to a world that is fading, revealed by facades with closed shutters and drawn curtains? Or was it to capture the fragile beauty of those who remain there? Taking a road is one thing. Stopping, turning off, until sometimes getting lost, is something else.

This work, born from a documentary approach, has morphed into a sensitive narrative of a territory and a humanity in limbo, where each photograph seeks the right distance, the share of silence.
