XIII

Born in 1986 and a self-taught photographer, Damien Chamcirkan grew up in the northern districts of Marseille, in the heart of a housing project in the 13th arrondissement. From 2009 to 2019, he documented his daily life with an intuitive approach, composing a sensitive portrait of Marseille and its inhabitants. Throughout this decade, his images reflect the different stages of his life and the evolution of his gaze: from photographic wanderings to moments captured on the fly, far from the clichés that fuel fantasies. His work is rooted in reality, in authenticity. XIII is the intimate diary of one of those children whom Marseille has watched grow up. XIII is a work on the collective memory of the Phocaean city, so as never to forget where the richness of this city comes from.
